Police and Crime Commissioner Election

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) were introduced in the 41 police authorities across England in 2012. They are elected representatives who oversee how crime is tackled in a police force area. Their aim in to cut crime and to ensure the police force is effective. They are elected for a four year term. 

The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) is responsible for the overall conduct of the election of a Police and Crime Commissioner. This includes liaising with candidates and agents at Police and Crime Commissioner elections and declaring the result for the police area.

The Chief Executive of West Berkshire Council has been appointed as the PARO for the Thames Valley Police Area. Further information about the Police and Crime Commissioner elections is available at PCC Election 2024.
