Bicester Garden Town - Travel

Promoting Active and Sustainable Travel

Get Active!

We work with partners to help residents choose sustainable travel options to get about. We are keen to integrate walking and cycling within daily routines both to support the sustainable growth of the town and to develop healthy lifestyles. Example initiatives include:

Bike libraries

Children at two Bicester primary schools have been the beneficiaries of our work with the North Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership and Active Oxfordshire, which has provided the pupils with bikes and secure storage.

Dr Bike

Free Dr Bike sessions are run in partnership with Bicester Green. On the last Saturday of the month, Bicester residents can use this free service to get their bikes back on the road encouraging them to re-engage with cycling.

Bike Day

Bicester Bike Day is a celebration of all things bike! Since 2017 this event has been delivered in partnership with A2Dominion, the developers of Bicester’s Eco-Town alongside organisations from across Bicester and beyond.

Cycle Training

We work with Oxfordshire County Council and local cycle training providers to extend the availability of cycle training in the town. This includes the provision of additional holiday Bikeability courses aimed at children in school year groups six and up to equip them with the skills for travelling around the town independently by bike.

Travel Information

Having up to date information on walking, cycling and bus routes helps new and existing residents understand their travel choices. The Bicester sustainable travel map emphasises how journeys within Bicester can be readily undertaken on foot, bike or bus.
