Grants and assistance for homeowners

Small repairs service

Working practice during the Coronavirus period

The Cherwell Home Improvement Agency and Grants Team are now running a full service again following the easing of restrictions. However, we do have a substantial backlog of work, so waiting times may be longer than normal and your patience would be appreciated.

If you, anyone in your household or any close contacts have displayed COVID-19 symptoms within the past 10 days, please do not request this service.

If symptoms occur after requesting the service but prior to work being carried out, please inform us immediately by calling 01295 227022 or emailing smallrepairs@cherwell-dc.gov.uk.

Small Repairs Service

Our small repairs service is available to owner-occupiers and tenants who are aged 60 or more, are registered disabled, or are suffering from long-term ill-health.

We can help with a wide variety of small general repairs, such as fitting:

  • shelves
  • smoke detectors
  • key safes
  • grab rails
  • security locks
  • safety chains
  • door viewers

We can also ease doors, carry out minor electrical work such as wiring plugs or replacing fuses and minor plumbing work like replacing tap washers.

The cost of the service is £20 for up to one hour's work, plus the cost of any materials. Work for a second hour (or part of a second hour) will cost a further £20. We are not able to undertake work that will take more than two hours.

For security reasons we cannot accept cash. Payments must be made by cheque.
