Key improvements and project updates
Greener spaces
We’re introducing new planting and landscaping to bring colour, texture, and vibrancy to Crown Walk and Pioneer Square. The selected trees, shrubs, and flowering plants have been chosen specifically for their ability to thrive in urban settings, improving air quality, encouraging biodiversity, and creating a more pleasant space for visitors to enjoy year-round.
Enhanced lighting
New lighting will brighten up walkways and gathering areas, improving safety and enhancing the evening atmosphere. Centenary-style lighting will be installed in trees and along key routes through Pioneer Square, creating a warm, welcoming glow as the nights draw in.
Public art
Three large-scale murals will be installed across the area to reflect Bicester’s unique identity. These eye-catching pieces will celebrate the town’s garden town status and heritage, adding creativity and community pride to the urban landscape.
Additional seating
We’re increasing the amount of seating to make the area more user-friendly and comfortable. The large concrete bench in Pioneer Square will be removed and replaced with modern individual cube-style seats, offering flexible, accessible spaces for people to rest, meet friends, or take in the surroundings.
