In July 2019 Cherwell District Council launched the Cherwell Community Lottery – a fund-raising mechanism for local groups, societies and charities.

The Cherwell Community Lottery enables participating local groups (“good cause partners”) to benefit directly from tickets bought by their supporters. We want to ensure that the Lottery benefits as many good causes as possible, including “grass roots” groups in towns and villages across the district.

To become a good cause the group must be a not-for-profit group (that means that any revenue generated must not be distributed to its shareholders or members).

The Cherwell Community lottery is an efficient and easily administrated mechanism for local not-for-profit groups to raise money and engage supporters. A guaranteed 50 per cent of each £1 ticket sale goes to the local good cause partner. A further 10 per cent goes into a centrally-held good cause grant fund for which good cause partners signed up to the Lottery will be able to apply for a grant once this initiative is launched.

Participating good cause groups will be provided with a dedicated page on the Lottery website together with marketing materials that they can brand in order to help raise awareness and drive ticket sales.

The attraction for ticket buyers is that supporting a local good cause provides an opportunity to win cash prizes. Every week ticket buyers have a 1 in 50 chance of winning a prize and the top prize is £25,000.

Applying to become a participating good cause is free and we have a dedicated team to make the process easy.  You can sign up as a good cause, purchase tickets and check winning numbers from the Cherwell Lottery website. For further information on good cause eligibility email cherwelllottery@cherwell-dc.gov.uk.
