Animal Welfare Licensing
As of 1 October 2018 the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities involving Animals) (England) Regulation came in to effect. The regulations cover:
- animal boarding businesses (including home boarders and day carers)
- dog breeders
- pet shops
- riding establishments
- keep or training animals for exhibition
These activities are covered under a single licence and you apply for the activities you require.
The regulations introduced a new licensing regime and replaced the following legislation:
- Pet Animals Act 1951
- Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963
- Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970
- Breeding of Dogs Act 1973 and Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999
- Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925
The following Licence is unaffected:
- Zoo licence
