The Small Repairs Service provides help to elderly and/or vulnerable residents via our experienced, reliable and trustworthy handyperson.
Who it is it for?
The service is available to Cherwell residents who are aged 60 or above, or who have a disability or long-term health condition that prevents them from carrying out routine repairs.
It is available to owner-occupiers and tenants (for jobs that are not the responsibility of the landlord).
What does the service cover?
- Home safety and falls prevention
- For example installing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, window restrictors, and grab rails
- Home security
- Such as fitting key safes, door or window locks, and security chains
- General household repairs
- For example putting up shelves, installing curtains or window blinds
- Simple electrical works
- Non-certifiable works only such as wiring plugs, changing bulbs or replacing fuses
- Minor plumbing works
- Such as fixing leaking taps, replacing toilet seats, replacing old shower heads and hoses
- Minor carpentry works
- Such as easing doors, replacing cupboard door handles
The service does not cover major repairs, cosmetic improvements (e.g. decorating), gardening, or works at height.
What does it cost?
£20 per hour (including partial hours) plus the cost of any materials. The service is limited to a maximum of four hours.
The labour charge does not apply to residents in receipt of a means-tested benefit or Council Tax Reduction or Council Tax Support (excluding single-person discount).
We can take card or cheque payments, but for security reasons we cannot accept cash.
