Hearing dates for Local Plan announced

The next stage of the independent examination of Cherwell’s Local Plan Review 2042 is confirmed, with hearings due to take place in January and February 2027.

Published: Friday, 30th October 2026

The main hearings are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 January 2027
  • Tuesday 19 to Thursday 21 January 2027
  • Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 February 2027

The hearings will take place at the council’s Castle Quay offices in Banbury and be live-streamed, with recordings available at the end of each day. Due to limited seating in the Council Chamber, anyone not directly participating is encouraged to watch remotely via the live stream.

Developed over several years, the Local Plan has been shaped by extensive consultation, evidence gathering and engagement with residents, businesses, partner organisations and statutory bodies.

It provides a clear framework for managing growth, supporting infrastructure, protecting the environment, regenerating our town centres, and giving communities more certainty about how Cherwell will develop in the future.

Councillor Chris Aramini-Brant, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Planning and Enforcement, said: “Once again, this is very encouraging news for Cherwell and a significant milestone in progressing our Local Plan.

“We are committed to planning for the district’s future by delivering much-needed homes and thriving communities, backed by appropriate infrastructure and services, while protecting the features that make Cherwell such a special place to live and work. A robust, up-to-date Local Plan is fundamental to that commitment.”
