Oxfordshire residents are invited to attend an upcoming flood preparation event to help them prepare for and protect their homes from future flooding.

Cherwell District Council, in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, will hold the Oxfordshire Flood Preparation event on Thursday, 24 September, from 2 to 7pm at Exeter Hall in Kidlington.
This free event will allow residents, businesses and homeowners to meet flood risk management specialists, local flood professionals and businesses to learn more about flood resilience products and services.
Councillor Chris Aramini-Brant, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Enforcement, said: “We know just how devastating flooding can be for people’s homes, businesses and communities. With changing weather patterns and more extreme rainfall, it is increasingly important that we help residents understand their flood risk and the practical steps they can take to protect their properties.
“We are pleased that our flood risk team has been able to collaborate with colleagues at Oxfordshire County Council to bring together experts from across the county with businesses specialising in flood protection, giving residents the opportunity to get practical advice, ask questions and see some of the solutions available.
“Whether you have experienced flooding before or simply want to be better prepared, I would encourage you to come along.”
Cllr Laura Gordon, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, said: “After a summer of heatwaves, it is vital we don’t forget about the risk that flooding poses. The county has suffered more than 20 significant flood events since 2007 and now is the time for households to come and talk to the experts to find out what steps they can take to reduce the risk to their property.”
Attendees will receive bespoke advice tailored to their circumstances from industry professionals and discover the latest products designed to improve flood resilience and safeguard properties against future flooding events.
The event forms part of the council's ongoing work to address climate change and support choices that will help safeguard our district for future generations.
