Local artists will create vibrant new murals as part of regenerative work in Bicester town centre.

Cherwell District Council is working with Oxfordshire-based artists Rawz and MES Crew to bring a series of murals to the walkway between Sheep Street and Pioneer Square.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project will bring colour and creativity to the space through a series of small-scale murals along the length of the wall next to Superdrug. These pieces will gradually build towards a larger feature mural near Sainsbury’s, transforming the entire route into a bright, creative corridor.

The artwork will celebrate Bicester’s identity, from its local history and culture to everyday community life and reflect the voices of the people who live, work and visit the town.

Councillor Lesley McLean, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Regeneration, and Property, said: "This is about celebrating Bicester’s unique identity in a creative and inclusive way. We want these murals to reflect the community’s voice - not just in how they look, but in the stories they tell. I’d encourage anyone with a connection to Bicester to get involved."

Members of the public are invited to contribute ideas and inspiration to help shape the final designs. A short engagement form is now open to anyone who wants to get involved, and a creative community session is planned during the design and delivery stages.

This initiative builds on recent public realm improvements in the town centre, including new planters and seating across Bure Place and Wesley Square, all part of a wider effort to improve the town centre experience and increase footfall.

The murals are expected to be installed later this year, subject to planning permission. They will be delivered in collaboration with Rawz and MES Crew, artists known for their community-led public art projects across Oxfordshire and beyond.
