The council plans to introduce a 100 per cent Second Homes Council Tax Premium from 1 April 2027.

Cherwell had been preparing to introduce the premium in 2026, but a revised timetable will allow the council to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to support its effective and consistent operation.
A spokesperson for Cherwell District Council said: “The Second Homes Council Tax Premium is one of the tools available to help support the availability of homes for local residents, and we remain committed to introducing it. We are now planning for it to come into effect from April 2027.”
