People are reminded to have their say on Cherwell District Council’s budget proposals before a key consultation closes on 19 December.
Published: Thursday, 11th December 2025
Changes to local authority funding mean the council is facing a significant financial test in 2026-2027. In response, it is proposing £1.785m in new efficiency savings to balance the budget and protect the frontline services residents rely on.
The consultation closes on Friday, 19 December 2025.
Councillor David Hingley, Leader of the Council, said: “Months of thorough planning have gone into preparing our budget proposals. Like councils up and down the country, we are navigating increasing demands for our services while the funding we receive from government does not keep pace with the cost of delivering them.
“This council is committed to sound financial management that helps shield frontline services from unwanted cuts. We will carefully read through everyone’s feedback before finalising our plans. So I urge residents, businesses and partner organisations to take part in our consultation and respond to the budget proposals before 19 December.”
The final decision on next year’s budget is expected at the full council meeting on 23 February 2026 following further consideration by the council’s executive after the consultation.
