Cherwell District Council has prepared the Cherwell Local Plan Review 2042 to meet north Oxfordshire’s needs in the coming years, protect its environment, and secure sustainable development.
Following a successful formal consultation, which concluded in February, the Plan is advancing through the democratic process so that it can be submitted to the government for independent examination.
On Tuesday, the council’s executive gave approval for it to be put forward to a full council meeting for final approval to submit.
Councillor Jean Conway, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development Management, said: “An up-to-date Local Plan will protect Cherwell’s heritage assets and green spaces and help us enhance ecosystems in the district. It will drive regeneration in our urban centres whilst creating homes, job opportunities and infrastructure in the most sustainable way possible.
“Where new development is needed, the Plan means we will deliver it to a high standard and in the most appropriate locations. It is a big positive that the Plan is so close to being ready for submission to government.”
Since February, officers have been working through the 345 representations received. All of these will be submitted to the government Inspector, as part of the examination process.
The council has also been reviewing evidence and engaging with other authorities.
Should council approve the draft submission Local Plan on 21 July, it will be submitted for examination by an independent planning inspector.
This process will include public hearings, with dates determined by the Inspector in due course.
