The weekend of 6 May will see King Charles III’s official coronation, this will mark a national period of celebration and Cherwell District Council will be awarding grants to facilitate local community celebrations, street parties and gatherings.

The grant scheme will be open to town and parish councils in the district, to encourage and assist with the hosting of events during April, May and June that will bring together residents in celebrating the momentous occasion.

Funding amounts will be awarded based on the size of the parish or ward and the nature of the proposed event.

Councillor Phil Chapman, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “The coronation will be a first and historic occasion for many of our residents and it is a great opportunity for communities to enjoy a time of festivity.

“Whether a small gathering or big street party we encourage parish authorities to take advantage of the fund and give their communities the opportunity to celebrate the coronation in their own unique way.”

Those receiving grants will be able to use the fund on equipment, venue hire, entertainment, insurance and promotion to ensure that their events are open and accessible to all members of their local community.
