Market Square transformation
In February 2023, we announced the approval of a £4.25m allocation of funds to transform Bicester Market Square into a multi-use community hub. This means that we can move to the next stages of consultation and design work that will help shape this high-profile town centre regeneration project.
Our goal is to create a thriving hub where the local community and visitors can come together to enjoy a variety of experiences and events in a space that is much more visually attractive, with new lighting and landscaping.
The current Market Square space is dominated by cars and parking but by rebalancing that and delivering live arts events, markets and leisure activities the area will become more accessible for pedestrians as well as providing a footfall boost to local businesses, benefiting the local economy for everyone.
On Monday, 4 September 2023, our Executive approved the appointing of professional town centre regeneration consultants to start necessary studies, work up the plans and designs and engage with local businesses and residents to agree on the best approach for making this major project a success.
Our officers will now be looking to engage as many members of the local community as possible to help shape the final plans for this major investment in Bicester.
