Cherwell’s FAST programme is being rolled out to Bicester and Kidlington on Blue Monday (20 January), after its successful launch in Banbury 18 months ago. The scheme gives families in wards with low recorded levels of physical activity access to big discounts on sport and leisure activities, as well as the chance to take part in free school sports sessions together.

Funded by a combined grant of £590,000 from Sport England, 270 families in Bicester and 70 in Kidlington have signed up for a FAST card, joining the 560 families already taking part in the programme in Banbury.

New offers include: a family swim at Bicester or Kidlington and Gosford Leisure Centre for £3 instead of £13; 15 per cent off Clip ‘n Climb Bicester for Monday to Friday open sessions; and £10 for a 6-week family tennis programme (saving £15) at Kidlington and Gosford Leisure Centre.

Councillor George Reynolds, Cherwell’s lead member for leisure and sport said: “From today, more than three thousand people are taking part in the FAST programme in Cherwell, enabling generations to come together and inspire each other to do more physical activity.

“Research shows that sharing time together and improving activity levels has positive effects on both mental and physical health. The FAST programme therefore not only benefits those taking part, but by improving their general wellbeing, it helps to alleviate some of the pressure on our existing health services.”

Families living in Bicester West, Bicester East and Bicester Town are now eligible for the FAST programme, as well as those in Kidlington East and Kidlington West. Card holders can benefit from all the offers in the district, tripling the opportunities available to them.
