Cherwell District Councillors approved the proposals to alter the use of an industrial unit on Murdoch Road, Bicester.
The site, covering a floorspace of 2,389 square metres, has car parking to the front and side and will provide electric vehicle charging for two cars. It is located 0.7 kilometres from the town centre and served by buses stopping on the nearby Churchill Road. Bicester North railway station is less than a kilometre away for visitors arriving by train.
Cllr Colin Clarke, Cherwell’s lead member for planning said: “These plans will provide residents and visitors to Bicester with great additional sport and recreational facilities, as well as creating more jobs for the area.
“Bicester as a town is steeped in motorsports history and many residents work in the industry.
“It seems appropriate that they may soon have the opportunity to spend their social time having fun on the track too.”
Applicants, Go Karting For Fun Limited, trading as TeamSport have been told to include acoustic design features in the building to ensure the surrounding area is free from intrusive levels of noise. They will also need to display signs asking customers to leave the venue quietly to respect any neighbours.
The facility will be able to stay open from 9:00am until 11:00pm, seven days a week.
