At Cherwell District Council, one seat from each of the 16 wards will be up for the vote, with a number of parish council seats also up for election. Names of the candidates for each district ward, and the parishes which have elections, are listed on the Cherwell website.

Yvonne Rees, returning officer for Cherwell, said: “If you don’t register to vote you can’t have your say – it’s as simple as that! Politics are not just confined to the seats of Parliament; decisions take place every day at a local level which impact directly on you and your community.

“At Cherwell we are responsible for making decisions on topics such as planning applications, the growth of the district and your rubbish collections. So if you want to have any say on these or any other services we provide, make sure you are registered to vote by 12 April!”

Anyone already registered, or who registered to vote before 8 March, should have already received their poll card informing them of where they will need to go to vote on 2 May. Voters do not need to take their polling card with them, they just need to make a note of their allocated polling station.

Those who register to vote between 9 March and 12 April will receive their polling cards after 18 April.

Polling stations will be open on 2 May from 7am to 10pm. Those who will be unable to vote in person due to situations such as holiday, work commitments or active military service have until 5pm on 15 April to apply for a postal vote or 5pm on 24 April to apply for a proxy vote.

Residents who have not received a poll card should contact the council elections hotline to check if they are registered to vote: 01295 227005. Alternatively, email
