The up and coming talent at South Northants and Cherwell councils will be put through their paces as they attempt to deal with a local authority crisis on the fictional Isle of Linfolk this week.

A team of five representing front line staff from both councils will take the role of senior management dealing with a simulated crisis during the East Midland Local Authority Challenge in Derby on Thursday, 21 March.
Cllr Phil Bignell, South Northants Council’s portfolio holder for Customers and Service Development, said: “Any sensible organisation should be investing in its people. During experiences like this they get a taste of some of the hard decisions members of senior management might one day face."
Cllr Ian Corkin, Cherwell’s lead member for Customers and Transformation, said: “This is a unique opportunity to expose some of our most ambitious members of staff to issues outside of their normal working life and to lay the foundations for the next generation of senior management."
Pitted against teams representing councils from around the country they will have to form a new strategy to resolve the situation while balancing the interests of members of the public, partner agencies and the political sensitivities.
