Bicester will soon be looking extra spick and span as the town centre gets a spring clean from the council.

Starting today, Monday 18 March, Cherwell District Council's street cleansing operatives will be going above and beyond their normal duties to get Bicester’s busiest areas looking their best as part of the town centre blitz.
During blitz week, town centre residents will be able to buy blue and brown bins for the discounted price of £18 and take advantage of a limited number of free bulky waste collections.
Cllr Debbie Pickford, Cherwell's lead member for clean and green, said: “Our blitz campaigns are all about encouraging communities to take pride in the places they call their own. The arrival of spring is the perfect time to give Bicester town centre a real lift and encourage everybody to make the most of their public spaces.
“I hope local people will make the most of the free bulky waste collection and support the efforts of the council’s excellent street cleansing team.”
The blitz area covers Queen’s Avenue to the north and London Road to the south; Piggy Lane to the west and Launton Road to the east. The crews will be collecting waste manually and using the mechanical street sweepers.
Residents can book their bulky waste collection online, and Cherwell’s customer service team will check they qualify to have it free of charge. They can have up to three items removed, providing they book during the week of the blitz. The service ordinarily costs £18.
Residents using the bulky waste collection service are reminded that the items they leave out for collection must not obstruct roads or pavements. The collections will be made on Monday, 25 March.
