Build!, an initiative developed and delivered by the council, has provided forty-two apartments just across from Bicester Village railway station, giving local people the most affordable option for owning their own new home in Bicester. Under the government’s shared ownership scheme, it is an opportunity for first-time buyers from Bicester to become homeowners for less than the current cost of renting.

Cllr Lynn Pratt, Cherwell’s lead member for economy, regeneration, and property, said: ‘I’m delighted to hand over the keys to Ellie. It’s wonderful to provide hard-working young people with an opportunity to own their own home.’

Ellie Weston, the new homeowner said: ‘I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to purchase this apartment under shared ownership. It’s certainly been a long time coming, with very few opportunities and developments that would be suitable for someone in my situation.

‘I am hoping these developments continue so many more people in my shoes, have a chance to get on the property ladder.’

Currently, there are only nine ;apartments unsold and since reopening in the new year there has been a flurry of interest in Gardeners Close with further applicants currently going through the financial assessment.

Cherwell District Council’s Build! is an ongoing program developing affordable homes for sale as shared ownership and to rent. To date, Build!’s award-winning scheme has undertaken 31 separate development projects. To read more see Build!.
