The Family Fun Day will take place at Spider Park in Keble Road on Sunday, 22 July from 1pm to 3.30pm. Families young and old are invited along to try out the new outdoor gym equipment, as well as a host of other outdoor fun in the sun, including a petting zoo set up especially for the day by Bicester Baptist Church.
Garth Park hosts the second event on Wednesday, 1 August, from 11am to 3pm, where a second set of outdoor gym equipment will be unveiled. The launch will be marked with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and the Mayor will be on hand to judge the best dressed Teddy competition.
A trained gym instructor will be present on both days to give demonstrations and show participants how to use the outdoor gym safely, ensuring they get the most out of their workout, no matter their age or ability. Ongoing, there will be regular sessions when local people can work out and get some exercise during their lunch hour, whilst they are looking after the grandkids in the park or simply enjoying a trip to their local green space.
These great new community facilities are in place thanks to the Healthy Bicester team, who successfully secured funding of £40,000 from NHS England.
Stephen Rand, of the Bicester Baptist Church, the organisers of the Fun Day said, “We are thrilled to bits that the new outdoor gym equipment is in place for our Family Fun Day, it’s an exciting new facility for local people to use all year round for free, helping them to stay active and exercise in their local park”.
Cllr Barry Wood, leader of the council, added, “Our events are fun and these free days out are a great way to get together with other families and keep children entertained over the long summer break. We are really excited about the launch of the outdoor gym equipment giving local people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to keep fit”.
