This week the Food Standards Agency launched the #ProtectingYourPlate campaign as part of Food Safety Week and throughout the summer Cherwell will be sharing stories and facts and figures about the work done by the council’s officers.
Cllr Andrew McHugh, Cherwell’s lead member for health and wellbeing, said: “The food and drink sector is a cornerstone of the district’s economy. So it is vital for the council to make sure people have confidence in the sector.
“Our officers have built up some wonderful relationships over the years, nurturing and guiding businesses in best practice and industry regulations.
“And while they can, and will, close businesses due to a concern for public health, it will always be a matter of last resort.”
Dan Mann, owner operator of the Quince and Clover boutique catering firm in Bicester, has built up a relationship with council officers over four years, first as an employee of a larger catering firm and more recently as a business owner.
He said: “The fact that I’ve known the Cherwell officers for many years means I can talk openly with them. They have seen me grow and understand the needs of my business. It gives me confidence that I’ve got the right policies in place and that I’m doing the right thing for my customers."
