Summer hubs beckon after half term hit

Preparations for a summer of fun are underway after Cherwell District Council’s half term hubs proved a hit with north Oxfordshire kids.

The council  runs activity hubs to keep children busy and happy while they are off school. There were 170 attendances at the sessions which ran in Banbury and Bicester last week (beginning 29 May) and the team behind them is now hard at work getting ready for the summer edition.

Booking for the summer activity hubs - which run from 26 July to 31 August - opens on 25 June and an early bird discount of ten per cent will be available for people who book before 1 July.

Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “The children who joined us for the half term activity hubs filled the week with energy and team spirit so I’d like to say thanks to them for making it such a success.

“We pride ourselves on sending children home feeling happy and fulfilled after a day at the hubs. They are also a great childcare solution for any parents who are out at work during the school holidays.

“We’re now in the second year of our online booking service so it will be really easy to reserve places on the summer hubs programme. Booking opens in just a couple of weeks and I would encourage people to book as soon as they can and make the most of the early bird offer.”

The hubs centre on exciting multisports, arts, and crafts sessions. They also feature guest activities, which last week included gymnastics, fencing and table tennis. The council’s youth activators, who will be running games of football, dodgeball and much more throughout the summer months, also delivered sessions.

Last week’s hubs took place at Cooper School in Bicester and North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury. A third venue, the Warriner School in Bloxham, will also be hosting hubs over the summer holidays.

Parents will be able to book their children in for anything from single days to the full six-week programme. All sessions are run by CRB-checked staff, meaning parents can be assured that their children will be safe and happy throughout their time with the hubs.
