Over the festive period the weight of waste and recycling in people’s blue and green bins increases by around 50 per cent.
To allow the waste and recycling crews to collect these increased amounts of waste, garden waste collections will be paused between Tuesday 27 December and Friday 6 January inclusive.
There will be no changes to the collections of blue and green bins, nor to silver food waste caddies over Christmas.
Residents can leave extra mixed dry recycling in a box next to their blue bins on collection day and it will be collected.
From Tuesday 10 January the council’s waste and recycling crews will be collecting people’s real Christmas trees for recycling as part of the usual kerbside bin rounds.
This is available to all residents; they don’t need to have a subscription to the brown bin garden waste service.
