Electric vehicle park and charge consultation

Statement of Reasons

The Cherwell District Council (off street parking places) (Electric Plug-In Vehicle Park and Charge Spaces) (Amendment) Order 2021

The Council has undertaken a full review of its car parking facilities and, as a result, has developed and adopted a new strategy.

As part of the Council’s contribution to climate change initiatives, there is a requirement to move away from internal combustion engine vehicles and to support and encourage the use of electric vehicles.  It is, therefore, essential that facilities are provided within Council owned car parks for electric plug-in vehicle charging.

The Council needs to make the above-mentioned Order, in pursuance of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, so that it may legally regulate the use of the parking bays when they become available for use.

Notice of proposals (issued 15 July 2021)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Cherwell District Council proposes, following consultation with the Police and with the consent of the Oxfordshire County Council, to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers.

Full details of the proposal are contained in the draft Order which may be seen, together with a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order and a copy of the existing Order to be amended in part, at the Council’s main office at Bodicote House, Bodicote, Banbury, Oxon, OX15 4AA between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm Mondays to Fridays.
