Heating and window replacement

Note: *It is the landlord’s responsibility to establish whether planning permission is required for window replacement in a listed building or a property located in a conservation area and to obtain any necessary consent before applying.

Electric storage heaters 50 percent / £2500

Storage heaters must be high-heat retention models. All parts of the property must be adequately heated, with secondary direct acting heating (e.g. fixed panel heaters, fitted with timer and thermostat control) in areas that are not suitable for storage heaters

90 percent of heat should be provided at the off-peak rate

Heating system must be designed with regard to the TEHVA guide

Wiring must be upgraded as necessary and a dual tariff meter provided

Insulation must be upgraded as considered necessary by the Council

Renewable heating systems 50 percent / £5000

The Council will consider any proposals for a heating system using renewable energy on a case-by-case basis. Suitable examples being:

Ground or air source heat pump providing full space and hot water requirements for the property

New electric boiler in conjunction with solar panels and/or solar heating systems

Evidence of projected energy efficiency may be required (e.g. from a competent energy assessor), particularly where the proposed works involve unfamiliar or new technology.

*Replacement of single-glazed windows with double-glazed 25 percent / £1000

Replacement of single-glazed windows (including patio or French doors but excluding other doors) with Building Regulation compliant double-glazed units.

On completion of the works, all windows in the dwelling must be building regulation compliant double-glazed units.

New windows must incorporate trickle vents.

*Replacement of defective double-glazed windows 25 percent / £500

Replacement of defective double-glazed units (that cannot be adequately repaired) with building regulation compliant unit(s).

New windows must incorporate trickle vents.
