Versions of the electoral register

There are two versions of the electoral register, the full register and the open register. The personal data in both versions must always be handled in line with data protection legislation.

Full register

Everyone who is allowed to vote is listed on the full register. As well as us, the full register is used by the following:

  • candidates and their agents at election time
  • official companies who need to check address details when people apply for credit, such as a mortgage, credit card or car finance
  • police, security services and Government departments to help prevent crime

Your details will automatically be included on the full register when you register to vote.

If you wish to look at the electoral register, you can do so at the main council building at Bodicote House.

Open register

The open register can be bought by anybody that wants it. Sometimes companies use it for marketing campaigns. You can tell us at any time if you don’t want to be included on this version of the register. Just send an email to elections@cherwell-dc.gov.uk telling us your name and address, or write to the Elections Team at Bodicote House, Bodicote, Banbury, OX15 4AA

Taking yourself off the register means that anyone who has already bought the information won’t receive this change.
