Planning - local development framework

Local Development Frameworks (LDFs) will form new planning policy for the district to 2026. LDFs were introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and replace the old system of District Local Plans and County Structure Plans.

The Local Development Framework is made up of a series of documents, comprising:

Development Plan Documents (DPDs) includes the Core Strategy and a Delivery DPD
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) includes a Planning Obligations SPD and Building in Harmony with the Environment SPD
A Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) and
Annual Monitoring Reports (AMR)

The timetable for the preparation of the Local Development Framework is called the Local Development Scheme (see Downloads on right). We will be reviewing the Local Development Scheme in the future, however for the latest news on the preparation of the LDF please read our "Planning Futures" Newsletter available to download from the right hand side of this page.

Planning Futures newsletter

On 17 June 2009 the Council launched "Planning Futures". This is the first quarterly newsletter from the Planning and Affordable Housing team which focuses on the Local Development Framework (LDF) and Conservation. It can be downloaded from the right hand side of the page,

"Planning Futures" provides an update and latest details about the preparation of the Local Development Framework for Cherwell.

Each quarterly newsletter will be published on this page, sent to all Parish Councils and emailed to all local residents, planning professionals and other interested parties who have provided their email details on our consultation portal. If you wish to be added to this mailing list and receive the newsletter please register on our consultation portal. Alternatively send your details to the contact details on the right. Sustainability appraisal

Each of the Local Development Documents that we prepare is subject to sustainability appraisal (SA). SA appraises the social, environmental and economic effects of these documents, to ensure that decisions accord with the objectives of sustainable development. How you can access the service

You are able to view, comment on, and see the comments that others have made upon LDF documents by accessing our online consultation system. Comments on our consultation can also be submitted in writing and should be addressed to Head of Planning & Affordable Housing Policy. All LDF documents (including the Core Strategy - Options for Growth paper are also made available online as PDFs.
