Cherwell District Council & South Northamptonshire Council

Cherwell District Council & South Northamptonshire Council are seeking Election Staff. There will be Elections taking place on 07 May 2015 in both Cherwell and South Northamptonshire. We are therefore looking to recruit:

  • Presiding Officers - in the region of £195 per day. Previous experience is essential and you should ideally have been a Poll Clerk at least three times. You will be responsible for managing the polling station, briefing staff, dealing with enquiries and completing paperwork. At the close of poll you will be required to bring all items to an allocated drop off point.
  • Poll Clerks - in the region of £115 per full day / £57 per half day. You will be responsible for recording and issuing ballot papers as well assisting members of the public and opening / closing the polling station.

The hours of poll are 7am until 10pm; however election employees are expected to be at the polling station no later than 6.30am and will be required to remain until the station is fully closed and paperwork completed.

  • Count Assistant - in the region of £50 - £60 per session. Hours of work are 9.30pm until the completion of the count (approximately 4am). Previous experience would be an advantage but is not essential. You will be responsible for sorting and counting ballot papers under supervision.

For all roles you should have a polite and professional attitude, be confident that you can work to a high level of accuracy. It is vital you are able to act impartially and maintain the secret of the ballot and are not working for or on behalf of any candidate.

Attendance at a training session prior to the election is compulsory for all new Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks. Count Assistant training will be provided prior to commencement of the count.

An opportunity exists to join the high performing Environmental Services team which is looking to take Cherwell's recycling rate beyond 60% and to deliver one of the Council's

key strategic priorities - a Cleaner Greener Cherwell. You will join a small admin team supporting a number of front line services including waste collection & recycling, street cleansing and environmental enforcement. You will be working in a busy environment where high standards of customer service are essential. The successful applicant will need to have experience of working in an office environment.

Excellent communication and customer care skills are essential because this role requires liaison with a wide range of internal and external customers. CSCS: Construction Skills Certification Scheme. Banbury and Bicester College

This revised and updated course will enable you to undertake a Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment (valid for life) and prepare you for the CSCS Health Safety & Environment Test.  Once you have completed the Level 1 Award and passed the test you will be able to apply for the CSCS Labourer Card.
