Councillor Colin Clarke is Cherwell District Council's new Chairman. Born in Banbury, Colin is a retired police officer. He's married, with three children and three grandchildren. Colin said: "I want to thank Councillor Timothy Hallchurch for his serving as Chairman for the last year - he'll be a difficult act to follow."
"I was approached by a councillor some nine years ago who suggested that I might like to stand as Calthorpe representative on Banbury Town Council. The following year I was elected to Cherwell District Council, again representing Calthorpe Ward.

"The roles of police officer and councillor are similar in that both are there to help solve problems experienced by the public and promote the wellbeing of the town and district.
Colin is a member of the Planning Committee and Audit and Finance Committee, and has served as Chairman of the Resources and Performance Scrutiny Board and the Appeals Panel.
In his spare time he enjoys philately, home computing and genealogy. Colin added: "I've traced many new cousins from all over the world and can prove one of my great (times 14) grandparents' married in 1564 in the old Gothic St Mary's Church, Banbury and a great (times 15) grandfather was born in Nord, Northern France in 1517."
Colin's wife Jenifer Ann will be this year's Chairman's consort. This year's Vice Chairman is Cllr Lawrie Stratford.
