Horley circular walk and village trail
A scenic route along two sides of a valley, across farmland of rich red ironstone soil, and through the picturesque villages of Horley and Hornton.
Horley is 3 miles west of Banbury. Please note this walk is 4.25 miles/6.8 km.
Route advice and text amendments
Particularly during the winter months, certain sections of the valley bottom tend to flood. Please turn back if conditions are too wet.
Direction 2 – "Head up the hill and after passing the entrance to......"
Direction 4 – "Go through a gate and down a short stepped slope to the stream. Go..."
Direction 6 – "At the far end...... down some steps and through......"
Direction 11 - Be aware of dogs in the garden.
Direction 13 - Second sentence should read "Continue, passing through a broad gateway in an old fenceline, and bear right following the vehicle track to pass through a gateway over a culverted stream."
Direction 14 - "You are now in Bridge Meadow. Bear right for about 50 metres to go through a pedestrian gate,......
Direction 15 - "Cross the meadow bearing slightly right, heading for a gap in the trees. Go through the field gate (over a stream) and into Coleman's Brookfield. Bear left to walk along the bottom edge of the field, which can be very wet, alongside Horley Brook. The Nature Reserve and Ironstone Railway, as described under Points of Interest (H), are through the woods at the opposite edge of the field."
