Council tax direct debit

Direct debits can now be set up on-line or over the telephone in addition to the original postal method.

All the normal direct debit safeguards and guarantees apply. No change in the amount, date or frequency can be made without notifying you at least 10 working days in advance of your account being debited.

In the event of any error, you are entitled to an immediate refund from your bank or building society.

You have the right to cancel a direct debit instruction at any time simply by writing to your bank or building society, with a copy to us.

In order to set up your direct debit instruction on-line you will need to provide:

  • your bank or building society name
  • account number
  • sort code
  • branch address.

Please select one of the following:

  • If this is a personal account or only one person is required to authorise debits on the account use the following form (online form "Direct Debit set-up procedure without signature")
  • If more than one person is required to authorise debits on this account, you will need to sign a paper copy but can complete the form on-line. The form will be emailed to you for signature. Please note that you must print off the form, sign and return to us.  (online form "Council tax direct debit with signature (return by post)") or use the contact details top right and we will post one to you.
  • If you are not the account holder you will need to complete the Council tax direct debit with signature (return by post), sign and return by post or use the contact details top right and we will post one to you.

If a different bank account is to be used for direct debit payments then the bank account holder should complete the following amendment form to set up a new direct debit:
