Recreation and sports development's aim is to create a place where sport is central to people's lives and where opportunities for participation encourage a healthy lifestyle.
The Recreation and Sports Development team offers holiday activities for young people through the Energize programme, funding and support for community sports clubs and groups, a varied range of activities around the local area aimed at getting more people physically active, information for people interested in joining a sports club and helps organise events such as the Oxfordshire Youth Games.
The FA Tesco Skills Programme
The FA Tesco Skills Programme has been a big success since entering Oxfordshire in August and has no plans to slow down.
The programme, launched nationally in 2007, uses expert FA Youth qualified coaches to deliver high quality, child-centred football coaching for 5-11 year olds. To date it has supported 21,500 teachers in 7,500 primary schools, along with over 1,000 Charter Standard Clubs in England.
Recent Oxford and Banbury Launch Events provided 120 free coaching places and there are now free holiday sessions in place for the October Half Term which can be booked online through the link to the right of the page.
These sessions will be open to 5-11 year old boys and girls of all abilities and will allow them to receive expert, age appropriate coaching from the FA Tesco Skills coaches in a fun and friendly environment designed to maximise learning and enjoyment. The programme consists of lots of football orientated activities aimed at increasing the standard of football at a grass roots level developing players football skills, confidence, teamwork, decision making and problem solving.
In addition to half term holiday sessions, the Oxfordshire FA Tesco Skills coaches will also be working in local primary schools and FA Charter Standard clubs as well as providing regular coaching opportunities at each of their after school Skills Centres in Banbury and Oxford.
After school Skills Centres are weekly football courses for boys and girls who want to improve their football skills outside of school and are delivered on the same night each week at the Blessed George Napier School from 4.00pm to 6.00pm for 5 to 11 year olds.
The centres are perfect for children who want to develop their football ability and also if they want to have fun with their friends. Centres cater for all abilities, from beginners to more experienced players and provide the opportunity for children to develop technically, psychologically, physically and socially, in line with The FA coaching model.
