What are the fees to become a taxi driver?

The fees are as follows; Grant of full licence - £193, Grant of temporary (3-month) licence - £68, Renewal of existing licence - £178.

What do I do to become a taxi driver once I have completed all the forms?
A
You will need to make an appointment to see a Licensing Officer.

What is the knowledge test?
A
A test to prove you have reasonable geographical knowledge of the area in which you intend to drive, an understanding of the relevant legislation and Highway Code and questions on Safeguarding. Full details of the format of the Knowledge and Safeguarding test is given in the application pack.

What happens when I pass the Knowledge and Safeguarding test - when do I get my taxi driver badge?
A
Once the Knowledge and Safeguarding test has been passed a decision will be made on the application.

What is the fee for a Knowledge and Safeguarding test?
A
The first two sittings of the test are included in the initial 'licence fee'. If you have failed your first two, the cost will the be £25 for each further Knowledge and Safeguarding test you sit.

When can I start driving a taxi/private hire vehicle?
A
You cannot start driving until the Drivers Badge has been issued to you.
