Q
What do I do if my refuse has not been collected?
A
Was it a normal collection day? Was there access to your property? Was your bin out for collection by 7am on the correct day? If the answer to these questions is 'yes', Please contact customer services (details can be found to the right of the page) to log a missed bin we will return to collect it within 3 to 4 working days. You can also log this via our online service.

Q
I am elderly and/or disabled, and I cannot wheel my bins to the boundary, what should I do?
A
We will make special arrangements for people who genuinely need help. Contact customer service and we will arrange for the collectors to pick up and return your bins from a location on your property that is convenient to you.

Q
How much does the waste collection service cost?
A
It costs Cherwell District Council on average of just over £1.00 per week per property. This money comes from government grants and council tax.

Q
What if I don't have any garden waste?
A
If you do not have any garden waste you can continue to use your brown bin for your food waste collection. We can offer you a smaller size brown bin. Please contact Customer services on the number to the right.

Q
What can I do with hazardous waste?
A
Hazardous waste means rubbish with certain characteristics which cause danger to health or the environment.

Q
Will the Council collect asbestos from my home?
A
No. We are unable to offer this type of service but would recommend that you contract a specialist contractor to deal with it, or if small amounts take it to the civic amenity site at Ardley.

Q
What are you doing about climate change?
A
We are engaged in revising and updating our environmental strategy. The revised strategy will provide much greater focus on addressing the causes of and adapting to the impacts of climate change both in-house and within the district.

Q
The fly tip is on my land who is going to clear it for me?
A
It is the land owner's responsibility to clear the waste from their own land.

Q
I have found some needles in the street. What should I do about them?
A
DO NOT PICK THEM UP YOURSELF. Telephone customer service during working hours or 01295 221531 outside working hours. A trained operative will come to collect them.

Q
Why can't we collect rubbish in severe weather conditions?
A
Our collection vehicles are large and in normal weather conditions need high levels of driving skills to manoeuvre in residential roads. In snow and ice conditions there is a very high risk of vehicles sliding which presents high risks to residents and their vehicles. Our collection staff need to move heavy wheeled bins to the vehicles, in the snow and ice this too can be extremely hazardous.

Q
Why we can not collect glass items on our bulky waste collection service?
A
We do not collect glass due to health and safety reasons.

Q
My bin was not collected due to collections being suspended. Which bin do I leave out?
A
Please leave out the collection bin that was missed. Once collections resume we will endeavour to catch up collections. For normal collections updates will be advertised on the website.

Q
Where can I recycle VHS video tapes?
A
We currently have two of these banks in Banbury at Morrisons and Tescos and one in Bicester at Tescos. We are hoping to provide this service in Kidlington in the near future.
