Litter bins

Litter in a public place is unsightly, dangerous to animals, and an offence.

What the service is for:

Litter bins across the district are installed by town and parish councils as well as by Cherwell District Council.  We are  responsible for emptying street litter bins within our boundaries.

We will investigate requests from the public for additional litter bins to be positioned in areas where litter is a regular problem and forward the request to the relevant authority.

Litter bins are emptied at least once a week, and bins positioned in busy areas will be emptied more regularly. We will respond to reports of damaged litter bins.

We will also investigate reports of misuse, particularly businesses dumping commercial refuse in litter bins. For these reports, an Enforcement Officer will visit the bin and attempt to find evidence which could result in a fine being issued.
