What we do with your feedback

Advice and information on health issues of concern to individuals and the community. Providing advice on how to live active and healthy lives for all members of the community. We work with other agencies (health services) and organisations to provide this service.

What the service is for:

We actively promote healthy lifestyles for local residents and visitors. A significant role is played in partnership with the local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and we take the lead on nutrition and healthy eating initiatives including help and advice on how to lose weight.

Local catering establishments are encouraged to participate in the eat well in Cherwell award scheme.

Exercise is an integral part of weight loss and a series of health walks has been established. These walks are graded from walks on flat even surfaces to walking up steep hills and having to climb stiles.

Smoking is a serious health issue. We are actively encouraging smokers to quit and there are regular smoke stop self-help groups running in the main towns of Banbury, Bicester and Kidlington.

In partnership with Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards and the Fire Service we promote and organise the annual electric blanket testing.

Age Concern in partnership with Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire Social and Health Care and Cherwell Vale and North East Oxfordshire, Primary Care trusts have developed a foot care service "sole mates".

We have a health bus which was funded jointly by the council and Oxfordshire Primary Care trusts.

A public health strategy has been produced with our partners which demonstrates our commitment to improving the health of our local population. A new Health Strategy will be produced in 2013. In the meantime the Oxfordshire joint public health strategy 2007-2012 is current and is available to download from the right of this page.
