Get a foot in the door at fair

A prime selection of local employers will be advertising job vacancies later this month at the Banbury Employment and Careers Fair.

Following the popularity of July's fair, the event on Thursday, 28 September is expected to attract a high attendance, with high profile businesses such as Waitrose and Marks and Spencer set to attend. The fair is being run by Cherwell District Council's economic growth service, and is a free event open to people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience.

The event will run from 5pm to 8pm to give those currently in work, as well as those who may be in-between jobs, the chance to attend.

Cllr Lynn Pratt, Cherwell's lead member for estates and the economy, said: "We have a really high employment rate in north Oxfordshire, and by running events like this employment fair we hope to make sure that those people who are out of work know that there is plenty of support and lots of opportunities for them to consider.

"When businesses such as Waitrose come to town to set up shop, we know that they really value the chance to meet the district's dynamic and talented local workforce. For jobseekers, meeting recruiters face-to-face can be a confidence booster, and a chance to consider roles that may never have crossed their mind before.

"We look forward to bringing lots of candidates and employers together at the fair, and with 18 businesses and organisations already having booked their stalls, we are expecting another busy and successful event."

The organisations so far confirmed as attending the fair are: Activate Learning, Adviza/National Careers Service, Champion Employment, Covenco Recovery Services, Faccenda Foods, Glebefields Care Home, Hawkins Group, Marks and Spencer, Mayday Employment, McDonalds, Waitrose, autoXP, Jobcentre Plus, FitzRoy Support, GI Group, Life Carers, The Apprenticeship and Training Company; and Thorne and Wait Recruitment.

As well as the many employers attending, there will be information about apprenticeships and training, and details of other support available for those seeking work.

Careers Advisers will also be on hand and people can pre-book a one-to-one appointment with them by calling the Job Club team at Cherwell District Council on 01295 221863 or e-mailing info@banburyjobclub.com.

The Banbury Employment and Careers Fair will take place on Thursday, 28 September, from 5pm to 8pm at the New Futures Centre, Hilton Road, Woodgreen, Banbury OX16 0EF.
