Blitz's clear-out incentive

Free bulky waste collections and discounted bins are being offered as part of next week's Kidlington blitz.

From Monday, 18 September, Cherwell District Council's street cleansing team will be eradicating litter, graffiti and dog mess throughout the village. The neighbourhood blitz campaign will also see the clean and green team knocking on doors to clear up any niggling doubts people might have about council waste and recycling services.

During the week of the blitz, Kidlington residents will be able to purchase additional blue or brown recycling bins for the discounted price of £18. The bulky waste collection service allows people to dispose of items that are too large to fit into their bins, including everything from tumble dryers to old furniture, ironing boards and barbeques.

Cllr Debbie Pickford, Cherwell's lead member for clean and green, said: "Throughout the year lots of us will have a washing machine break down or a favourite armchair give up the ghost. Instead of letting them accumulate, we ask people to have a clear out and use our bulky waste service, which can save a trip to the tip. For the people of Kidlington, next week will be a prime opportunity to get rid of their bulky items free of charge."

"Cherwell's street cleansing operatives do sterling work all year round to tackle problems like littering and graffiti, and they'll be going above and beyond their normal duties next week to get Kidlington looking its very best. I hope villagers will notice the difference and be inspired to keep their neighbourhoods looking spick and span for the rest of the year."

Kidlington residents will only be able to claim a free bulky waste collection if they book it during the week of the blitz. From 18 September, they will be able to check their eligibility and make bookings using an online booking form.

The service ordinarily costs £16 for three items, but will be free to Kidlington residents if they book their collection during the week of the blitz.

Residents using the bulky waste collection service are reminded that the items they wish to have collected must have been booked and must not obstruct roads or pavements.
