Hubs break up before autumn comeback

After thousands of children enjoyed the council's summer activity hubs, residents are being informed that early bird discounts will be offered for the October edition.

Cherwell District Council and South Northamptonshire Council's activity hubs ran from Monday, 24 July until Friday, 1 September and over 2,957 children attended across the two districts.

The hubs provide fun programmes of sports, games, arts and crafts for five to 15-year-olds.
Attendance at the summer hubs was boosted by a new online booking service which will reopen for the October half-term hubs on Monday, 25 September. A 30 per cent discount will be available for people who book before Sunday, 1 October.

Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell's deputy leader, said: "The hubs have proved massively popular with the district's children once again and we are pleased to have been able to contribute to their learning new skills, making new friends and staying active during the school holidays.

"Parents are increasing realising that, for little over £2.25 an hour, the hubs are far cheaper than the typical cost of childcare, meaning it's a highly attractive option if they are out at work while the kids are off school.

"Once again our officers are hard at work putting together a programme of activities for the October hubs which will entertain and inspire, and we look forward to welcoming back regulars and newcomers alike once half-term comes around."

The half-term hubs will feature guest activities which change on a day-to-day basis, including fencing, tennis, trampoline and netball.

In Cherwell, the hubs will take place at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury and Cooper School Sport Facility in Bicester.

Full day sessions, from 8.45am to 5pm, cost £18.95 while the shorter session, 8.45am to 3pm, costs £14.95. Places are limited and must be booked in advance on a first-come-first-served basis. The activities are open to girls and boys aged five to 15 years old and are split into two age groups, five to seven-year-olds and over-eights.
