The Grim sweeper

Grimsbury will be swept up for the end of summer as one of Banbury's busiest areas gets a deep clean from the council.

During the week commencing Monday, 14 August, Cherwell District Council's street cleansing operatives will be going above and beyond their normal duties to tackle litter, flytipping and graffiti, getting Grimsbury looking its best.

Residents will be able to support the clean-up by taking up the offer of free bulky waste collections and discounted recycling bins. Throughout the five-day campaign, the waste and recycling team will be door-knocking to answer questions about how to reduce waste and recycle effectively.

Cllr Debbie Pickford, Cherwell's lead member for clean and green, said: "We run regular blitz campaigns in the district's busiest areas to help promote a sense of neighbourhood pride and spread awareness of the services that the council offers.

"Most Grimsbury residents do a great job of sorting their waste but, like any populous area, theirs can be subject to littering and flytipping. We hope lots of residents will support our hardworking team by taking advantage of the free bulky waste collections and discounted bins that we are offering, and by welcoming our officers if they stop by to say hello.

"We expect our team to collect tonnes of waste, and hope that this will inspire people to help keep Grimsbury looking lovely for the rest of the year."

The neighbourhood blitz area extends as far as the river Cherwell to the north, Thorpe Mead to the south, Concorde Avenue to the west and the M40 to the east.

Residents will only be able to book their free bulky waste collection during the week of the blitz. From 14 August, they will be able to check their eligibility and make bookings using an online booking form.

The service ordinarily costs £16 for three items, but will be free to Grimsbury residents if they book their collection during the week of the blitz.

Residents using the bulky waste collection service are reminded that the items they wish to have collected must have been booked and must not obstruct roads or pavements. During the week of the blitz, Grimsbury residents will be able to purchase additional blue and brown recycling bins for the discounted price of £18.
