         <description>Cherwell residents might now be able to take advantage of a free energy-saving scheme which could save them a small fortune. Cherwell District Council's partner, the United Sustainable Energy Agency, has managed to access grants to provide free cavity wall and loft insulation through its Cocoon scheme.</description>

         <description>A pair of smokers clearly had money to burn after ignoring littering fines from Cherwell District Council. On 30 November last year, Christopher Ahlgram (age unknown) of Cox's Lane, Enstone, was spotted dropping a cigarette butt outside Iceland Stores in Sheep Street Bicester.</description>

         <title>Your chance to play a part</title> 
         <description>Cherwell District Council is calling for enthusiastic people to volunteer as marshals when the Olympic Torch relay comes through the district in July. Volunteer marshals will work in key locations along the Torch relay route as it goes through Bicester, Kirtlington and Kidlington. They'll ensure that the event is safe and enjoyed by everyone by helping to supervise the route. The council will provide training sessions to ensure everyone knows what they have to do on the day. </description>

         <description>An empty Banbury property in need of refurbishment is set for a new lease of life thanks to an agreement between Cherwell District Council and housing association A2Dominion. The two organisations are working together to bring 1 West Street back into use as a collection of affordable apartments. The building, previously home to six bedsits, is fenced off with metal plates covering windows to prevent vandalism while it sits unoccupied. </description>

         <title>Chairman's dinner adds to charity coffers </title> 
         <description>The Chairman of Cherwell District Council, Councillor Timothy Hallchurch MBE and his consort Dr Janet Stokes Carter, held this year's Chairman's Charity Dinner at the Tythe Barn, near Launton on Friday 13 March. The black tie event was attended by 74 people, who contributed to the Chairman's charity. They included three Deputy Lieutenants, Robert Buckeldee, Miranda Markham and Brig Ian Inshaw, and Henley MP Dr John Howell OBE. The Mayors and Chairmen from Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire county councils also attended as well as the mayor of Banbury, and Oxfordshire County Council leader Cllr Keith Mitchell CBE. </description>
